Odenwald Association members were saddened to hear of the passing of one of its long-standing members, Robert Stirling, before Christmas.
Robert travelled to the Odenwald on many occasions to attend the Schottische Nacht and the Burns Supper events and was well known in the Odenwald.
Memories of Robert are of a larger than life character with a great sense of fun. In his company there was always laughter and joking but there was a serious side of Robert which showed his caring side and sensitivities.
Shocked to hear the news, friends in the Odenwald have expressed their sincere sympathy with former Landrat, Horst Schnur, commenting, “Robert was a fine person and always active for our partnership.” Other friends mention Robert, “A very valuable person has left us; thoughts are with his family.” Shocked and saddened, a friend recalled Robert being thrilled to be invited to participate in a family event in the Odenwald 10 years ago.
Robert was never more proud than when he was talking about “his laddie” Robert Junior’s great achievements in his sport of bowls.
Always available and willing to assist at Odenwald Association events, Robert “manned the gates” at Airth Highland Games and Odenwald Association fund-raisers.
Robert will be sorely missed by all who came in contact with him here and abroad. Thoughts and heartfelt condolences to his family.
