German Consul, Christiane Hullmann, came over from Edinburgh to talk to the Odenwald Association on Tuesday, 11th February. She told us about her career to date which has included posts in Kyiv, Berlin, Brussels, the Balkans, and in New York at the Permanent Mission to the UN. She also told us about the work of the Consulate, dealing with passports, visas, and citizenship, and encouraging trade, cultural, and scientific collaborations between Scotland and Germany. She is passionate about promoting German language-learning in schools and higher education, and stressed the importance of twinning groups such as ours, especially in the wake of Brexit. After the talk, Ms. Hullmann stayed to chat and answer questions over German-style refreshments of Stollen, Lebkuchen and Pretzels.
